Got more than one job in mind?

Plenty of Newcastle homes need a couple of things done at once, like interior and exterior, or a roof and gutters together. We quote it as one job, so you get one clear written price from your local painter in Newcastle.

Which parts of a new home can you paint?

The interior scope can include new plasterboard walls and ceilings, doors, frames, skirting boards and other trim. Outside, the coating depends on whether the home has render, brick, cladding or timber. Each surface is identified in the quote with the preparation and finish it needs.

Tell us whether the job is a full build, an extension or rooms that have just been lined. Those jobs have different access and trade schedules. We visit to check what is ready and agree the scope with you before the painting stage is booked.

When should painting fit into the build?

Painting follows the surface preparation required by the lining and coating systems. Plasterboard joins need to be finished and dry before sealing and painting. Access is also affected by flooring, cabinetry, electrical fittings and other trades working in the same rooms.

We discuss the build sequence at the site visit and agree which areas will be ready for each stage. Tell us who is coordinating the job and which dates are already committed. The painting timing is then set against the actual work and surfaces rather than an assumed completion date.

Why does new plasterboard need a sealer?

Plasterboard has a paper face and a different material over its joins and screw heads. Those surfaces absorb paint differently. A suitable sealer prepares them for the finishing coats and helps create a consistent painted surface across the sheet and its joints.

Light from a window can show surface variation, especially when it falls along the wall. Colour and sheen affect how obvious that variation looks. We check the lining finish and the room’s light before agreeing the paint, with any additional preparation discussed before coating.

How are new doors, trim and exterior surfaces painted?

Bare timber, new joinery and pre-primed surfaces are checked for the right coating system. Gaps and small surface defects are prepared where included in the scope, and the finishing coats follow the paint maker’s instructions. The door and trim colour is agreed alongside the wall and ceiling finishes.

External materials need their own preparation and products. Render and masonry must be ready for the specified coating, while timber needs its exposed surfaces prepared and primed. The quote names the exterior areas so eaves, doors and other trim are clear parts of the job.

Can you paint an extension to match the existing house?

Yes. We can assess the new work and the adjoining existing surfaces together. An older colour may have changed with age, sunlight and cleaning. We discuss the match before painting, including whether the adjoining wall or trim should be recoated for a consistent finish.

If the project joins an occupied home, access and protection are planned around the rooms still in use. Let us know where the new work connects to existing rooms and which surfaces you want included. The written scope separates new surfaces and existing repaint work within the same job.

What do you need to quote a new build?

You can check my licence with NSW Fair Trading and read Gyprock’s plasterboard painting guidance at the manufacturer or regulator’s website. For the work available, see our Newcastle painting services.

Your suburb, plans or surface details, current photos and the build stage help us plan a site visit. The number of rooms, ceiling heights, exterior material, access and amount of joinery all affect the work. We check the actual site before agreeing a written price and sequence.

I am Jye Hughes, based in Edgeworth, with NSW painter-decorator licence 476719C. Our Lake Macquarie new-build photo is a real Hughesys job. You can point to that finish when discussing your home, and the quote sets out the preparation and painting agreed for your own build.

"Jye painted my house, and I couldn't be happier with the result. He was professional, on time, and very respectful throughout the entire process. The quality of his work was outstanding, and he made sure everything was cleaned up afterwards. Something not all tradespeople take care of. I would highly recommend Jye to anyone looking for painting or similar work."

Questions about new home painting in Newcastle

Do you paint both the interior and exterior of new homes?

Yes, where both are included in the quote. We inspect the surfaces and agree the work inside and outside, including the doors, trim and eaves wanted. Our gallery includes a Lake Macquarie new home with a complete interior and exterior paint job.

Can you quote from building plans?

Plans can help describe the size and surfaces, alongside current photos and your suburb. A site visit checks the surface condition, readiness and access before the written job price is agreed. Tell us the build stage and who is coordinating the other trades when you enquire.

Does painting start as soon as the plasterboard is fitted?

The board needs its joints finished, sanded and dry before the sealer and paint system are applied. Other trades and access also affect the sequence. We assess the stage of the build at the visit and agree the areas that will be ready for painting.

Can you paint a newly built extension?

Yes. We can quote the new extension and any adjoining repaint work together. The existing paint is checked when a colour match is needed. Tell us which old rooms connect to the new area so the quote reflects both the fresh surfaces and any blending work agreed.

Can we choose different colours for different rooms?

Yes. The colours and finishes are agreed as part of the job before painting. Rooms, ceilings and trim are identified in the scope, and samples can be discussed at the site visit. Light and the use of each room help determine a suitable finish.
