Painter near Wallsend Village
I'm Jye, a licensed painter based in Edgeworth, about 10 minutes from Wallsend Village.
I paint homes, rentals, shops and offices around the Wallsend town centre.
Do you paint in Wallsend?
Yes. Wallsend Village, the shopping centre on the corner of Cowper and Kokera Streets, is about 7.5 km from my place in Edgeworth, a 10-minute drive along Main Road and Lake Road. I paint houses, units, rentals and shops in the streets around it.
I do every job myself, from the quote to the last coat, and every quote is written before any work starts.

Can you paint a shop or office while it stays open?
Yes. The shops and offices around Wallsend Village and Nelson Street trade all week, so the painting is planned around your hours. We agree the times before the job starts: early mornings, evenings or weekends.
A recent one was a shopfront repaint for a butcher in New Lambton, and the photos are on the New Lambton butcher shop job. For consulting rooms and small offices, see office painting in Newcastle.

Do you paint rental properties between tenants?
Yes, and Wallsend has plenty of them: more than a third of homes here were rented at the 2021 Census. The gap between tenants is the best time to paint, because the house is empty and every wall is easy to reach.
Walls are patched and sanded, old marks are sealed so they stay hidden, and hallways and living areas get a washable finish that cleans up after the next tenant. Rea Brett's review below is from a rental I repainted in Newcastle.
What do the older houses in Wallsend need?
Wallsend started as a coal mining town in the 1860s, and some of the old miners' cottages are still here, next to brick homes and newer townhouses. Old timber cottages carry many layers of paint. Flaking paint is scraped back, open joints are filled, and bare timber is primed before any colour goes on.
Paint from before the 1970s can contain lead, so on an older house I check for it at the quote visit and plan the prep around it.
- Interior repaints, room by room or the whole house
- Weatherboard and brick exteriors
- Townhouses and units
- Shop interiors and shopfronts
- Offices and consulting rooms
- Doors, frames and trims
What happens on the day?
In a house, I work room by room: furniture into the middle under covers, drop sheets on the floor, and the room set back up before I move on.
In a shop or office, desks, stock and fittings near the walls are moved away and covered, and the floor is protected. Before you open again, the drop sheets come up and the space is cleaned and put back.
At the end of every job, we walk through it together before you sign off.
How much does it cost to paint in Wallsend?
For a house, the price depends on the number of rooms, the ceiling height, the state of the walls and any colour change. Going from a dark colour to a light one can take an extra coat. For a shop, it depends on the size of the space and the hours the work has to fit into.
Every quote is written and lists each surface. For what goes into a painting price, see how much a painter costs in Newcastle.
Who will be doing the painting?
Me. I'm Jye Hughes, and I hold NSW painter-decorator licence 476719C, which you can check on the NSW Fair Trading licence check.
The person who quotes your job is the person who paints it, and you ring the same number the whole way through.

Questions from homeowners and shop owners near Wallsend Village
Can you paint our shop after hours?
Yes. Early starts, evenings and weekends are agreed up front, so the shop keeps trading while the work gets done.
Do you paint townhouses?
Yes. Inside a townhouse, the colours are up to you. Outside work on a strata townhouse needs approval from the owners corporation, the group of owners that runs the complex.
Can you paint a rental while it is empty?
Yes. Tell me the date the tenants move out and the date the next ones move in, and the job is planned to fit between them.
Do you paint old weatherboard cottages?
Yes. They take the most prep: scraping, filling, priming bare timber, and a check for lead in the old paint.
Do you work in Elermore Vale, Maryland and Jesmond?
Yes. They are all a few minutes from Wallsend Village and a short drive from Edgeworth.
Can you match our shop's brand colours?
Yes. Send the colour codes from your brand guide or a physical sample, and the paint is tinted to match.
When is the best time to paint the outside of a house?
In fine weather, once the walls have had time to dry. I check the forecast against the paint maker's instructions, and if rain interrupts, the job picks up on the next dry day.
Can you paint the inside and outside of a house in one job?
Yes. Inside and outside can go on one quote, with each part priced separately so you can choose what gets done and when.
Is the quote free?
Yes. The site visit and the written quote are free.
