Repainting a bathroom in Cameron Park
In June 2026 I repainted a bathroom in Cameron Park, a couple of kilometres from Blue Gum Hills Regional Park.
Here's how the job went, with the photos.
What was the job?
A bathroom in a Cameron Park home: a corner shower with a glass screen, white tiles to about waist height, a window over the toilet, a vanity, and a heat lamp in the ceiling.
The job was everything above the tiles: the walls, the ceiling and the cornice. The walls are finished in a soft cream with a white ceiling.

How did it go?
A bathroom is all about steam. It settles on the ceiling and the top of the walls every time someone showers, so that's where old paint bubbles and mould starts.
Any mould was cleaned off and the surfaces left to dry, then sanded and primed. The finish coats are a paint made for bathrooms, with a mould inhibitor in it, which is an additive that slows mould growing on the paint.
The line where the paint meets the tiles and the cornice took the most care. A straight, clean edge there is what makes a bathroom look finished.

Painting a bathroom you use every day
If it's the only bathroom in the house, the job is planned around it. Each paint has its own drying time, and you're told the time for the product used on your job before the shower goes back on.
For the first few showers, run the exhaust fan and leave the door open afterwards so the room dries quickly. The NSW Health mould fact sheet gives the same advice for keeping mould down: run the fan when showering and open a window when the weather allows.
More on this is on the bathroom painting page.
Do you paint other homes around Cameron Park?
Yes. Cameron Park is right next to Edgeworth, where I'm based, about five minutes away. I paint around Cameron Park, West Wallsend, Minmi and Wallsend, close to Blue Gum Hills.
Most of the homes here are newer brick houses, where the work is inside: bathrooms, living areas and feature walls.
I'm a house painter in Newcastle, working on my own from Edgeworth.
