The homes around Booragul Station

Near the station and the water there are older weatherboard and fibro cottages, with brick homes further up the hill. Old timber carries many layers of paint, so flaking paint is scraped back and joints filled before any colour goes on. Paint from before the 1970s can contain lead, so I check for it at the quote.

From Edgeworth it's about 12 minutes via The Weir Road.

Older fibro can contain asbestos, so it is cleaned and sealed, never sanded. See SafeWork NSW's asbestos guidance.

Paint on the lake side

Damp mornings and afternoon sun off the water are hard on the lake side of a house. Timber there weathers fastest, and decks and handrails dry out and crack. Weathered timber is sanded back to sound wood, primed and finished with a coating made for full sun.

How a job runs

You get a site visit and a written quote first. On the day, furniture is moved and covered, floors get drop sheets, and each room is put back before I move on. At the end we walk through it together.

How much does it cost?

Weathered timber on the lake side usually needs more sanding and priming, and that is listed in the quote.

Every quote is written and lists each surface. For what goes into a painting price, see how much a painter costs in Newcastle.

Who does the painting

Me, Jye Hughes. I hold NSW painter-decorator licence 476719C, which you can check on the NSW Fair Trading licence check. I quote the job and I paint it, and you deal with the same person from start to finish.
