I paint homes in Teralba, Booragul and Speers Point, inside and out.

Do you paint houses near Teralba station?

Yes. Teralba station is about 8 km from my place in Edgeworth, a 10-minute drive down Main Road and Racecourse Road. I paint houses in the streets around the station and along the lake, from Teralba through to Booragul and Speers Point.

I do every job myself. I come out, look at the house, and send you a written quote that lists every wall, ceiling, door and trim. The quote you approve is the price you pay.

What do houses around Teralba need?

Teralba grew up around the railway in the 1880s, so the streets near the station have some of the oldest houses on this side of the lake: weatherboard cottages with timber windows, verandahs and many layers of old paint. Around them are newer brick family homes.

Many homes here are big. At the 2021 Census, nearly half the homes in Teralba had four bedrooms or more, which means a lot of walls and ceilings to paint.

Close to the lake, timber takes the weather first. Damp air and sun off the water get into deck boards, handrails, window frames and fascias (the boards along the edge of the roof), and that is where paint starts to lift.

What can I get painted?

I paint whole houses, or just the rooms you want done. For walls, ceilings and doors inside, see interior house painting. For decks and outdoor timber, see deck staining and painting.

  • Walls, ceilings, doors and skirting boards inside
  • Weatherboard, brick and rendered walls outside
  • Decks, handrails and pergolas
  • Fascias, eaves and window frames
  • Timber and Colorbond fences
  • Feature walls and full colour changes

How does a paint job work?

It starts with a call on 0466 880 561 or the quote form. I come out, look at every surface, check what prep it needs, and send you a written quote.

On the job, prep comes first. Walls are washed, cracks and holes are filled and sanded, flaking paint on timber is scraped back, and bare timber is primed. Then two topcoats go on. I clean up before I leave.

Paint from before the 1970s can contain lead, and the older cottages near the station are old enough to have it under the newer coats. I check for it at the quote visit and plan the prep around it.

What happens on the day?

Inside, furniture is moved to the middle of each room and covered, floors go under drop sheets, and each room is put back together before the next one starts. At the end, we walk through the house together before you sign off.

Outside, paint goes onto dry surfaces in weather that suits the product. If rain comes in off the lake, the job picks up again on the next dry day.

How much does it cost to paint a house in Teralba?

The price depends on the size of the house, how many rooms or walls you want done, the height and access, and how much prep the surfaces need. A deck or weatherboard wall that has gone grey takes more prep than one that was recoated on time, and that time goes into the quote.

Every quote lists each surface, so you can see where the money goes. For what goes into the price of inside work, see interior painting costs in Newcastle.

Is Hughesys Painting licensed?

Yes. I hold NSW painter-decorator licence 476719C, and you can look it up on the NSW Fair Trading licence check before you book.

I'm the person who quotes the job, does the prep and puts on the last coat. If you have a question halfway through, you ring the same number you called to book.

Google Review

"Jye Hughes painted the exterior of my home (render, panels, wood battens) a month ago. It was a challenging job, with half of the house at two stories, and limited access - but he delivered without a problem. ... The end result was outstanding and his price was very competitive."

Frequently Asked

Questions from homeowners near Teralba station

Can you paint the deck and the house at the same time?

Yes. The deck, handrails and the outside of the house can go on one quote, and doing them together means one setup.

Do you paint two-storey houses?

Yes. Height and access are worked out at the quote visit and included in the price.

Can you paint just a few rooms?

Yes. One room, a few rooms or the whole house. The quote lists each room, so you can choose what gets done.

Will you help me pick colours?

Yes. I can bring samples so you see the colours on your own walls, in your own light, before anything is painted.

Do I need to be home while you paint?

For inside work, someone lets me in each day. For outside work, you can be at work, as long as I can get to the walls and any pets are inside.

Do you work in Booragul and Boolaroo too?

Yes. Booragul, Boolaroo, Speers Point and Teralba are all a short drive from Edgeworth.

Is the quote free?
