We paint ceilings and cornices in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie homes, including the bathroom ceiling shown in our Charlestown gallery job. Preparation, stain treatment and the agreed paint finish are included in the written quote.

Got more than one job in mind?

Plenty of Newcastle homes need a couple of things done at once, like interior and exterior, or a roof and gutters together. We quote it as one job, so you get one clear written price from your local painter in Newcastle.

What is included in a ceiling repaint?

The scope can cover one room, several ceilings or the whole house. We check the ceiling surface, cornices, old paint and visible marks before quoting. Cornices are the moulded strips where the ceiling meets the wall, and they are named in the quote when they are part of the work.

Flat plasterboard ceilings, detailed older ceilings and high stairwells need different preparation and access. Let us know if you want the walls painted too. Planning them together keeps the work in order and gives the finished room a clean line between the ceiling, cornice and wall colour.

What happens to cracks and old water stains?

Small surface cracks and nail holes are checked during the site visit. Where a repair is suitable, it is filled, allowed to dry, sanded and primed before painting. A stain needs its own treatment so the old mark is isolated beneath the new finish.

A ceiling with an active leak, dampness or sagging needs the cause assessed and fixed before repainting. Tell us when the mark appeared and whether a plumber or roofer has already dealt with it. The painting quote can then reflect the surface that is ready to be repaired and coated.

Which paint finish works on a ceiling?

A matt finish helps soften reflected light and makes minor surface variation less obvious. Bathrooms and laundries also need a coating suitable for moisture and the way the room is ventilated. We check the room’s use and the existing finish before agreeing the paint system.

Light shining across a ceiling can reveal joins and patches that overhead light hides. We look at the surface in the room’s normal light before painting. Colour, sheen and the condition of the ceiling all affect what you see once the room is finished.

How do you protect furniture and floors?

Furniture is moved away from the working area where practical and covered. Floors are protected with drop sheets, and fittings near the ceiling are protected during preparation and painting. Clear small items, valuables and anything sitting on top of cupboards before the job starts.

We agree the room order so you know which spaces are available each day. Ceiling work is planned around the access needed for the height and shape of the room. If a room is densely furnished, mention it when requesting the quote so moving and protection can be allowed for.

Can you paint the ceiling without repainting the walls?

Yes. A ceiling-only job can be quoted where the walls are in good condition. The line around the room is cut in carefully, and the agreed cornices are included. If older wall paint needs touching up beside a repair, we discuss the colour match before starting.

Our Charlestown bathroom job included the ceiling and walls with a finish suited to the room. For a larger repaint, ceilings can be scheduled with the walls, doors and trim in one interior job. You choose the rooms and surfaces, and they are listed in the written quote.

What affects the cost of ceiling painting?

You can check my licence with NSW Fair Trading and read Gyprock’s plasterboard painting guidance at the manufacturer or regulator’s website. For the work available, see our Newcastle painting services.

Ceiling area, height, furniture, stains, cracks and the condition of the old paint all change the work involved. A flat ceiling in a clear room is a different job from a high stairwell with detailed cornices. Access and preparation are checked at the site visit before the price is written.

Frequently Asked

Questions about ceiling painting in Newcastle

Can you repaint a bathroom ceiling?

Yes. We check the surface, marks and ventilation before agreeing the finish. Our gallery includes a bathroom ceiling and wall repaint in Charlestown. Any ongoing moisture source needs attention before coating, and the written quote identifies the preparation and ceiling work included.

Will paint cover an old water stain?

The surface needs to be dry and the cause of the stain dealt with first. Suitable stain treatment and primer can then be specified before the finish coats. Tell us whether the leak has been repaired when you enquire so we can assess the ceiling in the right condition.

Do you repair cracks before painting the ceiling?

Suitable small repairs can be included in the quote. We inspect the cracks and the surrounding surface before deciding the preparation. Movement, recurring cracks and sagging need their cause assessed; the paint finish is applied once the ceiling is ready for the agreed work.

Do ceilings need two coats?

The coating system and the existing surface determine the number of stages. Bare or repaired areas need a suitable primer or sealer, followed by the agreed finishing coats. We list the preparation and finish in the written quote and follow the product’s application instructions.

Can the walls and ceilings be painted together?

Yes. We can quote the ceilings, cornices and walls together, with doors and trim added where wanted. Planning one interior repaint keeps the surface preparation and painting in order. Tell us which rooms are included so the quote covers the whole scope.
